Description

Beautiful, Parma-violet, pink blooms of Erythronium Rose Queen are an unusual and striking woodland perennial. In spring and early summer, clumps of mottled green foliage bear stems of single blooms up to 15cm in height. Pointed and reflexed, the pink petals are speckled with yellow or brown markings at the heart. A member of the lily family, it is easy to see why when you see the shape of the curved petals and prominent, pollen-rich stamens. Erythronium dens-canis Rose Queen plants are small and will form clumps of up to 10cm wide, fabulous planted in a group or together with other spring flowering bulbs at the edge of a border or in a pot. The bulbs are shaped like canine teeth (which is where this delicate plant gains its common name 'dogs tooth violet') and should be planted in moist, well-drained soil in dappled shade in autumn. Flowers and foliage die back soon after flowering and lie dormant until next spring. Excellent for underplanting beneath deciduous trees and shrubs where Erythronium dens-canis Rose Queen will spread and naturalise, brightening even the shadiest of areas.
