Description
Epimedium x warleyense 'Orangekonigin', or Orange Queen produces a mass of dainty light orange blooms and is tougher than she looks. Wiry stems hold sprays of pretty star-like flowers each with four sepals, looking rather like little hats. Epimedium Orange Queen flowers abundantly in spring and early summer over clumps of pretty heart-shaped, evergreen foliage. Spreading by rhizomes, Epimedium make wonderful weed-suppressing all-year-round groundcover, just perfect for planting into borders and containers or a woodland setting. Epimedium are also known by the common name Bishops Hat - because of its flower shape - the delicate blooms of Epimedium nod gently in the slightest breeze. Originally found growing wild in the woodlands of China and Japan, here in the UK we are just starting to appreciate their undeniable beauty. Epimedium x warleyense 'Orangekonigin' prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in full or part shade. Growing to a height and spread of 30-45cm, Epimedium are classed as fully hardy perennials with an RHS hardiness rating of H7, meaning you will enjoy them outside for many years to come without the worry of needing winter protection
