Description

Geraniums were brought to Britain in the 16th Century and quickly became the mainstay of a British garden. As spring breaks, you can almost feel Double Geranium building up energy and start to produce a soft mound of lush, green weed-suppressing foliage. Shortly afterwards, a mass of buds smother the foliage ready to burst open and form large blooms producing a magnificent floral display from May throughout the summer until October every year. Forget the geranium you see in summer hanging baskets which are actually Pelargonium, Geranium are incredibly easy to grow in both borders or containers. Amazingly floriferous, producing rose-bud-like blooms all summer long and into early autumn they happily entwine with other near-by plants. The deeply dissected foliage creates an attractive weed-suppressing groundcover which is slug and rabbit resistant, whilst being drought tolerant. The clumps get larger each year and can be divided after several years to create more plants to share. Double Geranium reach a height and spread of approximately 45-60cm, preferring to be grown in well-drained soil in sun or part shade. As a fully hardy perennial she will thrive outside for years to come with no winter protection required.
