Description

A pastel rainbow of astounding spears Mythology claims the delphinium was named after the Delphi temple. This temple was built to honour the sun god, Apollo, who was entranced by these towering blooms. Apollo's approval has also meant delphiniums are believed to bring good luck. As luck would have it, your Delphinium 'Highlander Rainbow Sensation' is a modern delphinium from Scotland which is bred to suit our British climates. This deciduous perennial emerges as a mound of lobed foliage in early spring. From June to July, a showy profusion of double flowers line your plant's compact spikes. These blooms shimmer with a lime yellow centre and lavender-pink petals. A tint of baby blue will also edge each newly opened bloom's outer petals. This trio of delicate hues will ensure a pastel rainbow of colour. Delphiniums are a superb choice for cottage gardens. These perennials adds height to summer displays in garden beds and borders. The mesmerising shades of these spires equally make an eye-catching feature in your vases. Pollinators will add colour to your summer when they visit your delphinium. Fortunately, this plant will not interest deer or rabbits and will be left alone to naturalise in your garden. Your hardy perennial flourish in a full or partly sunny location with moist, well-drained soil. A west, south or east-facing aspect will best suit your plant. Your delphinium is best planted when the soil is warm and moist in spring or autumn. Cutting your plant back when the flowers are spent can also encourage a second, late flush of blooming spires. Delphinium 'Highlander Rainbow Sensation' will reach a maximum height and spread of 100cm by 40cm when fully grown.
