Description

A vivid and velvety drama queen Impeccably proportioned and deliciously decadent - one glance at the lush blooms gracing 'Dahlia Sam Hopkins', and you will understand why dahlias are a firm favourite in British gardens. Layered with precision, this dahlia's rich-ruby, flat-tipped petals will blend to deep blackish red, making this decorative variety a summer sensation in your garden! Striking, fully double flowerheads will reach 10-15cm in diameter, stretching up to greet you on elegantly long stems above attractive, dark green foliage. Flowering profusely from July to November, this deciduous perennial will make a spectacular addition to borders or containers. Fantastically, long-lasting as cut flowers, your blooms will bring drama to any arrangement, deadheading spent flowers will also encourage a burst of new blooms. Bees and butterflies love dahlias, whilst deer and rabbits leave your dahlia to its own devices. While the weather is still frosty, pot up your tuber root and keep it in a warm place. Once the weather has improved, a south, east or west facing location which benefits from moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil will suit your half hardy perennial. In cooler climates, lift your tuber after the foliage has been blackened by the first frost and store it in a cool, dry place until spring. When fully-grown, 'Dahlia Sam Hopkins' will reach a maximum height and spread of 90cm by 75cm.
