Description

Award-winning and pretty as a pastel-pink princess Once prized by the Aztecs dahlias arrived in Britain in 1798 and are now treasured in gardens all over the UK. Dahlia 'Happy Single Princess' is a vision of prettiness with a single row of elegant pink-tinted, white florets surrounding a warm amber-gold eye. Blooms reach 5cm in diameter and have a neat circle of pastel petals which will enchant you as they stretch above the dramatically dark foliage. Flowering prolifically from June, this RHS award-winner will make a spectacular addition to either your garden or patio, continually producing beguiling blooms until the first frosts. For rural gardens deer and rabbits will leave alone, whilst bees and butterflies will be seduced by the nectar-rich centre of each flower. Dahlia 'Happy Single Princess' also makes an excellent cut flower so snip them for your home and remember to deadhead any spent flowers left on the plant as this will encourage the production of more blooms. While the weather is still frosty, pot up your tuber root and keep it in a warm place. Once the weather has improved, a south, east or west facing location which benefits from moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil will suit your half hardy perennial. In cooler climates, lift your tuber after the foliage has been blackened by the first frost and store it in a cool, dry place until spring. When mature your Dahlia 'Happy Single Princess' will reach a maximum height and spread of 80cm by 60cm.
