Description

The star shaped flowers of Dahlia Dreamy Nights are stunning with neon-magenta edge to the petals and velvet-like purple centre, highlighted by the golden circle of yellow stamen. New breeding has ensured this beauty is robust, compact and more tolerant of both hot summer days and rainy, windy days than other Dahlias. The dark foliage highlights each brightly coloured bloom in summer and autumn. Dahlia are much loved garden plants, highly prized for their variation of shape and colour. The sumptuous blooms are produced on surprisingly strong, leafy stems making them excellent for cutting, lasting up to 10 days in a vase. One plant will produce many blooms, because the more you cut the more they flower. Dahlia originated in Mexico and Central America where the tubers were apparently once grown as a food crop. In the 1960's, Dahlia was declared the national flower of Mexico. Dahlia Dreamy Nights prefers to be grown in well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Growing to a height and spread of approximately 40cm, Dahlia are herbaceous perennials with tuberous roots, they die back for the winter then sprout again in the spring as long as they do not get waterlogged.
