Description

Dahlias are the darlings of the late summer garden, blooming reliably, and well into the autumn. Thanks to our breeder, we can offer an exclusive and unique mix of extremely floriferous, delightful Dahlias. Weaving a tapestry of colour in your borders and containers at a time when many summer flowering plants are fading and before the autumn and winter start. A mix of sumptuous blooms in a wide range of colours will be produced in abundance, each held on a surprisingly strong stem, which makes these beauties excellent as cut flowers for your home, lasting up to 10 days in a vase. Native to Central America, Dahlia have been named the national flower of Mexico, where they were gathered in the wild to be eaten by the indigenous people. The long hollow stems were apparently used as water pipes. Reaching a mature height of around 70-90cm and spreading 60-75cm we would recommend Dahlia Breeders mix is grown in well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Dahlias are tuberous perennials so if kept frost free and not waterlogged over winter, will sprout again in the spring. Dahlia grow very well in pots, whether sunk into your border for the flowering period, then lifted and kept intact in the pot in a dry, protected place over winter.
