Description

Also known as the Cloth of Gold Crocus, Crocus angustifolius originates from the Crimean Mountains. A wonderful heritage variety dating back to the late 16th century it has been in cultivation for over 500 years. Boasting scented, bright, deep yellow flowers, with spectacular, maroon, feathery markings on the outside of the outer petals, the goblet-shaped blooms are held above thin, white-striped, grassy foliage. Growing to a height of approximately 10cm, Crocus angustifolius is wonderful for naturalising in your lawn or in a woodland setting. Planted in drifts the scene is breath-taking. Crocus angustifolius has been given the Award of Garden Merit for outstanding performance in the garden. Few things in the garden stir the heart more than the first crocuses of spring because their arrival means winter is losing its icy grip and warmer times are over the horizon. Crocus provide a spurt of colour just as you need it. For the hibernating insects emerging from their slumbers, crocuses offer a vital supply of nectar and pollen.
