Description

The fiery flowers of Crocosmia ensure your autumn garden will be hot, hot, hot whatever the weather. Also known as Montbretia, the name Crocosmia now comes from the Greek 'Krokos' meaning saffron and 'osme' meaning smell as when rubbed the leaves give a scent of saffron. This plant will really heat up your garden with many enormous blooms of fiery orange for three months from summer to autumn. Trouble free, easy to grow, slug and rabbit resistant and good for cutting. Prefers well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Height 90cm (36). Spread 10cm (4) although this increases over the years, they are not invasive and any unwanted clumps can easily be lifted after a period of time if required. Hardy perennial.

H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
