Nowadays, we recognise Cranberries as a superfood, being high in vitamins and antioxidants. Historically, Native Americans used the berries and juice as a treatment for various diseases, as did the early settlers from England. To grow cranberries in your garden is easy and eating the berries straight from the bush is excellent for health and well-being. Vaccinium macrocarpon Cranberry is a low growing shrub, which can be grown in any size garden. Evergreen, Vaccinium can be used as ground cover. Pink blushed small flowers appear early summer, which create red cranberries in the early autumn. The foliage is also interesting. The leaves are bronze in the Spring, green in the summer and copper in the autumn and winter. Perhaps make your own cranberry sauce this year for Christmasu2026it will taste delicious.
