Description

Also known as Coylus avellana, this native UK tree is wonderful in many ways. Starting as early as February with its iconic Catkins gracefully hang down from the branches as sure sign spring is on its way, and beautiful large green leaves that hold throughout summer before they transform in autumn to a golden glowing yellow and orange blaze. Most notably recognised for the bountiful amounts of hazelnuts produced in late autumn and winter which form from the summer blooms. These delicious nuts are loved by people but also brilliant food source for wildlife such as Squirrels and dormice. A delightful tree to enjoy year-round and once established the smooth greyish bark gradually peals with aged adding to its distinctive look.
