Description

A stunning new variety of the much-loved, fragrant Lily of the Valley, Convallaria majalis Rosea is something just a bit different. Highly scented, pink-mauve, bell-shaped flowers, between 8-12 per arched stem, nod in the late spring breeze amongst green, fluted foliage, tiny red berries follow. A favourite amongst florists, Convallaria majalis make excellent cut flowers for bouquets or for your home so you can enjoy the scent indoors too. One of the UK's favourites, in the language of flowers, Lily of the Valley signifies the return of happiness. Once used as a liquor and smeared on the forehead to improve one's common sense, it is also said to improve the memory. It is worn on 8 May each year, in Helston, Cornwall, to welcome the summer and it has become tradition in France to sell Lily of the Valley on international labour day, 1 May. Incredibly easy to grow, naturalising to form incredible clumps your garden will be filled with fragrance. Happy in borders or containers, Convallaria majalis Rosea is rabbit and deer resistant, easy to grow and trouble-free creating clumps of weed-suppressing groundcover. Not fussy on soil conditions, although they prefer to be grown in moist soil in full or part shade. Growing to a mature height of approximately 25-30cm, they spread to approximately 20cm and despite their dainty appearance, thrive outside for years with no winter protection, forming underground stems or rhizomes.
