Description
Clematis napaulensis Fragrant, rare and highly sought after, Clematis napaulensis is a beautiful, winter flowering Clematis originating in Nepal that will happily climb trellis, walls and fences whilst giving stunning winter colour and scent. Scented, nodding, green-cream bell-shaped flowers with slightly reflexed petals that display the striking re-purple stamens from November to March. Lush foliage climbs and entwines, covering unsightly walls or clambering through trees throughout the winter, then becomes dormant in late spring or early summer, making plenty of space for other summer flowering climbers to take over. Then when they start to die back in autumn, napaulensis takes up the baton, producing lots of new foliage, preparing to display its winter blooms again. Clematis napaulensis requires very little maintenance, preferring moist, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade, with its feet in full shade. Reaching a height of approximately 3m, it is a fully hardy perennial able to be left outside over winter with no protection.

How hardy are your plants?
All plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.
FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 °C (5°F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5°C (23°F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0°C (32°F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5°C (41°F)
WT – Warm temperate – can withstand temperatures between 5-10 °C (41-50 °F)
ST – Sub Tropical – are happy in temperatures between 10-15 °C (50 – 59 °F)
TR – Tropical – can withstand temperatures above 15 °C (59 °F)
Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
