Tell Me More...
Clematis alpina Blue Dancer will waltz her way into your heart. One of the earliest Clematis to open in spring, an abundance of pale blue blooms, each with a creamy-yellow centre, envelopes the deciduous, climbing stems in April and May. As with all alpina varieties, the open, bell-shaped, nodding blooms are followed in summer by intriguing, fluffy seed heads.Clematis alpina Blue Dancer is a desirable plant which happily clambers over a wall, fence, pergola and climbs through a large tree or shrub. No regular pruning is required, however if you wish to control the height, prune just after flowering; this gives new shoots later in the year and allows flowering the following spring - as blooms appear on old wood.Thriving when grown in a large container, Clematis Blue Dancer will reach a height of 1.8-3m and is much loved by bees and butterflies. Clematis alpina prefer to be grown in moist and well-drained soil in sun or partial shade; ensure their feet (roots) are shaded, even by a large rock or piece of slate.Incredibly hardy, Clematis Blue Dancer will happily grow in coastal areas, coping well with sea spray and gale force winds.
