Chionodoxa forbesii Blue Giant or 'Glory of the Snow' is a short bushy perennial that will bring early colour to the garden year after year. 'Giant refers to the size of the blooms in contrast to other chionodoxa. Starry blue flowers worship the sun with their white centres turned up towards it. Surrounded by a mound of green foliage these blooms herald the start of spring and are out before the bluebells. Plant in drifts towards the front or centre of a border or leave a clump in an attractive container. Plant in September-October and mulch well for blooms in March and April. Blue Giant enjoys well-drained soil in a garden spot that is sunny or has part-shade and sheltered. The flowers can last up to 4 weeks in the ground and they make great cut flowers for a vase. Chionodoxa naturalise easily if left undisturbed once flowering is over.
