Beauty by name and by nature, Callicarpa bodinieri is also known as The Beauty Berry. As the new foliage appears in the spring, it emerges bronze-purple then matures to dark green. In summer racemes of stunning, pink-purple flowers appear on upright stems. By late autumn and winter, large, compact clusters of vibrant, almost metallic-like, violet-purple, bead-like berries have formed which look truly spectacular whilst glistening in the sun on the bare branches after the leaves have flushed purple and orange and fallen to the ground. The bare branches are much loved by florists, as they are excellent for floral arrangements both when laden with berries, as also when the new, young, purple foliage is emerging. Named bodinieri after Émile-Marie Bodinier, a French botanist from the 19th Century. Callicarpa bodinieri prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Growing to a height and spread of approximately 1.8m, it is fully hardy so will flourish outside to be enjoyed all year round without the need for any winter protection.

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
