Calamintha are aromatic herbs, much coveted by both floral and culinary lovers. Commonly known as Calamint, the foliage emits a sweet aroma when crushed and was often used to treat a wide range of ailments. Neat, bushy mounds of aromatic green foliage are topped by stems holding clusters of pretty blooms in summer and early autumn. Much loved by bees and butterflies, deer and rabbits tend to leave Calamintha alone. Perfect planted near the kitchen for use in marinades to flavour meats or dry the leaves to be later infused for a refreshingly aromatic tea. Happy in both borders and containers, Calamintha is very drought tolerant, preferring well-drained soil in sun. Growing to a height of approximately 45cm and spreading to between 45-75cm, the dense foliage is great as a weed suppressing groundcover and is fully hardy so can be left outside during winter for years to come.

How hardy are your plants?

All plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)
TR Tropical can withstand temperatures above 15 C (59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
