Description

The longest flowering of all Masterwort's, Astrantia major Pink Pride is a cottage garden favourite which is equally at home in modern garden design. Adored by pollinators, the charming, dainty, pale pink blooms stand proudly atop strong wiry stems up to 60cm tall from May to September. Known as the pincushion flower, or Hattie's Pincushion, Astrantia prefer moist, well-drained soil in full sun to part-shade and require little maintenance. Cutting the stems either for use as cut flower or deadheading after they have faded will encourage a second flush of these delightful dusty-pink umbels in late summer. Plant Astrantia major Pink Pride in the centre to front of a border or pathway where the intricate blooms can be seen and fully appreciated. A fully hardy perennial, with an RHS rating of H7, Pink Pride will thrive outside all year round with no extra winter protection required. Prune faded foliage in late autumn and apply a mulch of homemade compost of leaf mould to ensure a floriferous display next summer.
