Description

Flowering profusely throughout September and October, Aster novi-belgii Sarah Ballard will spangle your borders with its dainty and prolific lilac, daisy-shaped blooms; illuminating your flowerbeds as the days draw in. Reaching an overall height of up to 90cm tall and spread of 75cm, this Aster needs plenty of space in the centre of a border where it will twinkle like gold and lilac stars on autumn mornings. Looks fabulous next to delicate grasses and golden autumn perennials such as Rudbeckia or Helenium which will complement the yellow centres of these beauties. Happy in full sun or part shade, Asters thrive in moist, fertile, well-drained soil and should be divided every third year to maintain vigour. The wispy stems loaded with flat, semi-double flowers are excellent for cutting and last a week or more in the vase. Cut when one third of the blooms are open and they will continue to open up in water.
