Description

Delicate, fresh, succulent spears: the gourmet highlight of spring. As pleasing on the plate as it is on the palate, Asparagus 'Pacific Purple' offers the ultimate gourmet delight of unusual, elegant, deep purple spears. More often seen in top restaurants than at the supermarket, this variety is sure to add a touch of luxury to simple suppers and dinner parties alike. Now you can enjoy an abundance of this delicacy fresh from your own garden. From May to June, Asparagus 'Pacific Purple' provides high yields for a satisfying harvest. The stringless spears are long and thick, with a particularly tender, sweet taste. Lightly steam or shave raw into salads to retain the vibrant purple colour. With an RHS hardiness rating of H4, asparagus is a hardy perennial - a rarity in the vegetable-growing world - so you can enjoy bigger and better crops year after year with minimum maintenance. Feathery foliage reaches up to 150cm height and 45cm spread. Asparagus will thrive in richly fertile, well-drained soil with a neutral to alkaline pH, positioned in full sun. Plant between March and June for a bumper crop the following year.
