Description
Lose yourself in the depths of these luscious blooms Featuring the same luscious, striking, iconic colour contrast as a certain pint of the same name, Aquilegia 'William Guinness' presents rich, purple-black sepals around a white-tipped centre to dramatic effect. The winged blooms exhibit the classic 'Granny's Bonnet' form, held on long, wiry stems. Nodding flower heads lend an air of tranquillity, swaying in the breeze above layered petticoats of lacy grey green foliage. With a height of 90cm and spreading to 50cm, Aquilegia 'William Guinness' is perfect for adding delicate movement and height to your borders, containers and indoor floral arrangements. Pollinators flock to the open, inviting centre and prominent stamens, stuffed with pollen and nectar. Blooming from May to July, Aquilegia readily self-seed and are wonderful for naturalising into swathes of spring and summer colour. These fully hardy perennials appreciate moist, well-drained soil in full sun and part sun/ part shade. Despite their delicate appearance, Aquilegia are tough little chaps and very easy to grow - they are rabbit and slug resistant, tolerant of poor soils.
