The essential of cottage gardens through the ages, know as such names as 'Granny's Bonnet', ' Ladies Petticoat' and best of all ' Doves at the Fountain'. However, innocent names can be misleading as these promiscuous plants can get up to all sorts of trouble if left alone. Flowering through spring and summer, they will produce intriguing variations if left to self-seed, while the original plant remains true. Should you wish to curb their enthusiasm just dead head and you will be rewarded with a further flush of flowers. Rabbit and slug resistant. Unfussy on soil conditions in sun or partial shade.

How hardy are your plants?

All plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)
TR Tropical can withstand temperatures above 15 C (59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
