Tell Me More...
Two-toned Aquilegia buergeriana 'Calimero' is an unusual and eye-catching petite variety of this quintessential cottage garden favourite. Also known as 'Columbine', or 'Granny's Bonnet', flowers are borne from May to July each year. Blooms are a rich, robust deep purple maroon, accented by creamy-yellow corollas and make a fantastically eye-catching inclusion to your planting. Loved by pollinators these intriguingly shaped flowers add an exciting contrast to herbaceous borders, gravel gardens and containers. Delicate feathery foliage emerges in April and remains through to October offering gap filling interest even when the blooms have faded.Plant Aquilegia buergeriana 'Calimero' in moist, well-drained soil which benefits from full sun or partial shade and has a degree of shelter from strong winds. A hardy, herbaceous perennial which is suited to any soil type and reaches a height of 20cm and a spread of 30cm with no additional winter protection needed throughout most of the UK. Flowers also make a wonderful inclusion in a vase and will readily naturalise in the right conditions.
