Tell Me More...
Gala Apples are the most popular apples in supermarkets. The reason for this, is they store well in refrigerators; hence easy to cool, transport and keep chilled until time to put on the shelves. However, the longer they are cooled the greater the loss of taste. When you have picked a Gala fresh from your own tree, the difference in flavour is incomparable. You will notice how the sweet juice has a zip you did not find in the supermarket Gala. Gala apples are red and green in colour, with the red being the side which has faced the sun. Strong growing, on short Malus rootstock P22, to keep the tree significanlty shorter, or grow in a large pot which will naturally restrict the growth, without affecting the fruit yield. It is certainly time to throw a gala for Gala.
