Description

Enjoy the magic of watching this one-of-a-kind bulb herald the holiday season. The amaryllis is in high demand at Christmas time for its festive colours and none could be more festive than the red. Emerging from a unique illuminated vase, large trumpet-shaped blooms appear as a wonderful finale. Easy to bring to bloom and lasting several weeks they will create a spectacular centre piece in your home this Christmas. The pretty fairy lights inside the watertight vase add a festive touch but the vase can certainly be reused year-round. Taking care of a house plant has never been so easy; this pre-treated amaryllis does not even require watering and you do not need to worry about soil either, its all done for you. Just sit back and watch the plant grow to a full height of around 30cm. Many people simply discard their Amaryliss after flowering, thinking it won't flower again. On the contrary, it it possible to save your floriferous friend and force it to bloom annually. All you have to do is cut off the flower stalk 1-2 inches above the bulb, making sure not to damage the foliage, then place it in a sunny spot and give it plenty of water and fertiliser. When the last frost of the year passes, move your amaryllis outside to a sunny location and water daily. In late summer, bring the plant back inside and pop it in a cool, dark spot. When you see the tip of the new stalk, move the amaryllis to a sunny location where it will soon bloom again. Interestingly, the amaryllis is said to have gotten its name from a heart-breaking legend deriving from Greek mythology. The story talks of the love-struck shepherdess, Amarysso, who longed for the handsome but cold hearted Alteo. Desperate to win his love, Amarysso pierced her heart with a golden arrow then visited his cottage daily, shedding her blood on her journey. It was said that on the 13th day, beautiful scarlet flowers bloomed along the path. Alteo was charmed, Amaryssos heart healed and this stunning flower got its name.
