Description

Exceptionally long flowering and full of charisma, the lily-like blooms of Alstroemeria 'Charles' are a clear, bright pink with a yellow flash and distinctive freckles at the centre. Also known as Peruvian Lilies and native to South America, the tropical appearance of Alstroemeria often disguises their robust nature and great usefulness in the garden. Like an exotic painted Orchid without all the fuss, Alstroemeria 'Charles' will flower enthusiastically from June until October, bringing colour and high spirits to any herbaceous border or container. The enduring blooms are invaluable not only in the garden, but also for the house. Alstroemeria are renowned for being outstanding cut flowers with an extraordinary vase life of up to three weeks. The long stems of Alstroemeria 'Charles' reach up to 50cm and make a glorious bouquet! Flowers are most prolific in a sunny position, though Alstroemeria will tolerate some light shade. Plant in well-drained, fertile soil. Once established, Alstroemeria are hardy throughout most of the UK and are long-lived perennials. Mulch generously in the autumn to provide some winter protection.
