Description
Allium stipitatum is a stunning hot pink allium that is also known as 'Persian shallot'. The perfectly spherical blooms consist of a galaxy of star-shaped flowers at the top of short stems with the green narrow-leaved foliage low to the ground. This ornamental onion would be ideal as a focal point at the front or centre of a border or as a clump of blooms in a container. Alliums are hardy perennials which offer a beautiful floral display year after year. They attract pollinators to the garden and prefer a sunny but sheltered spot in a well-drained soil that is not too moist. Stipitatum should be planted September-November for a dazzling floral display in May-June. The seed heads are attractive when dried for decoration and the plants can be divided if needed after flowering. The flowers can last up to 2 weeks when cut for a vase or floral arrangement.
