Description

Allium obliquum or lop-sided onion is a form of wild onion originating in Eurasia. Also known as twisted leaf onion it has twisted narrow leaves which add interest when included in flower arrangements in a vase. The flowers are a brightly coloured yellow-green which is unusual for alliums. The blooms are spherical and made up of numerous tiny flowers with stamens extended for a fluffy effect. Ideal in the front or centre of a border or as a clump in a container alliums grow well in most soil types as long as it is well-drained. Ornamental onions prefer to grow in a sheltered sunny spot. Plant September-November for flowers in June-July. Perennial allium obliquum will flower every year and clumps can be split if needed. Cut flowers can last up to 2 weeks in a vase and the seedheads will add architectural interest if left after flowering in the garden.
