Description

Allium nigrum Pink Jewel is one of the first large-head alliums to be produced that is pink in colour. The spherical blooms consist of clusters of pink starry flowers touched by deeper pink veins and green centres. Supported by medium height stems with low foliage these alliums will attract pollinators to the garden. Plant in September-November for May-June flowers. Pink Jewel is perfect for the front of a mixed border or grow a clump as a focal point in a glazed container. This allium prefers sun or part shade and is best grown in well-drained soil. Most types of soil will be suitable. The plants should be sheltered from strong winds. Alliums are perfect for flower arrangements as they can last up to two weeks as cut flowers in a vase. These perennial alliums will grow every year and can be split if the clumps grow too big for their space.

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)
TR Tropical can withstand temperatures above 15 C (59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
