Description

Currently the largest allium available, Allium giganteum is a tall ornamental onion which creates an impressive focal point in any garden. These spherical balls of small star-shaped flowers come in shades of purple which tower above low-lying foliage. This ornamental onion would be the perfect plant for the middle of a border or as a clump in an attractive container. Alliums are drought-resistant and will grow well in well-drained soil. They prefer full sun or part shade and to be protected from strong winds. The bulbs are easy to grow and maintain. Plant ornamental onions in autumn for a stunning summer display in June-July. Clumps of alliums that are outgrowing their spot can be divided after flowering is finished. They are hardy perennials which will offer a great display year after year. Giganteum is large as its name suggests and makes a long-lasting cut flower for a bouquet or vase.
