Description
This stunning Allium atropurpureum will ensure eye-catching borders wherever it grows. The flowers form a tight-knit sphere of maroon-purple blooms which contrast beautifully with the tall green stems and low-lying foliage below. These hardy ornamental onions are sown as a bulb between September-November and will flower from May-July. Ideal for the middle of borders and will create a beautiful centrepiece. Leaving the seed heads intact will create structural interest during autumn and winter and these can be dried for decorations. This hardy perennial prefers either partial sun or full sun and a sheltered spot. It is easy to care for and maintain. The plant offers a good tolerance of different soil types but has a preference for well-drained soils. As a cut flower, Allium atropurpureum will last for around 2 weeks in a vase. After flowering clumps can be divided if too big for their spot or left to naturalise.
