Allium Artisan Mix

Transforming the lull between spring and summer into a high point of the gardening year, alliums are a secret weapon of many a gardener and designer. We have collated some of our all-time favourites in this Allium Artisan Mix, designed to showcase the breadth of size, shape, and colour available from this fabulous genus. Small yet mighty Allium oreophilum reaches little more than 10cm in height, its grey-green foliage and pinkish purple flowers ideal for rockeries, pots, or the front of a border. Next up at 30cm tall is Allium 'Graceful Beauty', its small globes of starry white flowers made all the more exquisite by delicate, purple anthers and stamens. For the middle of a border, Allium caeruleum, at 60cm height, is ideal; its masses of dazzling, true blue spheres highly effective at drawing the eye away from the fading foliage of neighbouring spring bulbs. A naturalistic drift of designers' favourite Allium sphaerocephalon cannot fail to impress, its unusual, egg-shaped flowerheads blooming a month or so later than other species. To top everything off with a statuesque height of 1m is Allium 'Miami', its shaggy, dome-shaped flowers perfect for punctuating a border. Give these a sunny, well-draining spot and plant as many of each as you can! All are hardy to at least -10 C.
