Description

Across Japan. Korea, Northern China and the cold east coast of Russia, a plant with charming flowers and an edible fruit grows freely. Unperturbed by heat or cold, year after year, blossom appears followed by green fleshed berries. You may have bought the fruit of its close relative in a supermarket. You would know this fruit by its popular name - the Kiwifruit. Actindia arguda produces a very similar tasting fruit, though the ones you will grow (and eat), have no hairs on the outside and are slightly smaller. The two varieties of Actindia you receive are, Actindia arguda Issai and Actindia arguda Ken's Red. Ken's Red is unusual, as it produces red 'Kiwi Berries', whereas other varieties produce the classic green fruit. These plants are vines and are very vigorous. A mature Actindia will produce 1000 fruits a year, so you will need to prune to keep in check. Well worth growing, eating, and enjoying plus the flowers and the foliage are very attractive.

All plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)
TR Tropical can withstand temperatures above 15 C (59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
