Description
Actaea racemosa is a tall, majestic plant which matures into dramatic, vibrant green foliage clumps with striking, divided leaves, which are held from March right through to October each year. From August through to October tall, dark stems bear bottlebrush-like flowers in bright, eye-catching white. Just perfect for vases and floral displays where they will add a delicate, arching grace. Flowers are also attractive to butterflies, moths and other pollinators as a rich source of nectar. So admired is this striking plant that it holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its reliability and versatility in the garden. Native Americans used Actaea racemosa medicinally for centuries to assist with a range of conditions such as kidney problems, rheumatism, childbirth and snake bites. It is commonly processed today for use as a herbal remedy to hot flushes, sleep issues and poor mood associated with the menopause. So, it is not only beautiful - it is of health benefit too. Plants prefer a spot which has moist, not boggy, soil which benefits from some shade. A fully hardy, herbaceous perennial which reaches a height of 1.5m with a spread of 90cm.
