Description

Aconitum x cammarum Bicolor with unusual two-toned blooms creates a dramatic statement as the stately stems rise above many other garden plants. In summer, tall stems soar above attractive clumps of fine foliage, holding racemes of unusual white flowers, each petal edged with dark purple markings, reminiscent of pixie hats, or monks' hoods, hence the common name Monkshood. Aconitum are native to the mountainous, meadowland and scrubland of Europe, North America and Asia. Once used in medicine as a pain-reliever, in medieval times Aconite was used as a poison on arrows when hunting wolves, hence the other common name Wolfbane. Aconitum x cammarum Bicolor has been given an Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society for outstanding performance in the garden. Excellent as cut flowers for your home, although best wash your hands after cutting and whenever you handle these plants. Aconitum x cammarum Bicolor prefers to be grown in moist soil in part shade, reaching a height of 1.2m, spreading to 40cm, she is a fully hardy, herbaceous perennial which dies back over winter, resprouting again in the spring with no protection required.
