Description

An unusual member of the family, Aconitum Purple Sparrow is shorter than her siblings, yet still able to make a dramatic feature. Sculpted, hood-like blue-mauve flowers, are borne on dark, almost black stems, in racemes above the lobed foliage during late spring and early summer, and then again in late summer. Known as Monkshood, the blooms are reminiscent of pixie hats. Watch with fascination as bees rummage in the flowers whilst butterflies hover above. A superb and easy to grow alternative to Delphinium. Beautiful in your garden and when cut for a vase within your home. Rabbit resistant, Aconitum Purple Sparrow prefers to be grown in moist soil in sun or part shade. In maturing she will reach a height of 50-60cm and spreads to around 50cm. Becoming dormant in winter she dies back to sprout again in the spring. The RHS have given it a hardiness rating of H6, which is down to -20 C, so should not require any winter protection.
