Tell Me More...
A newcomer to the achillea family which brings joyous colour to the garden between June and September with scarlet-pink petals surrounding golden yellow centres. Achillea millefolium 'Red Beauty' holds its flowers in mounded clusters on long, strong stems - just perfect for cutting to add to a vase or bouquet. Nectar-rich and produced in abundance - blooms will also pull in pollinators in search of an ambrosial feast. Perfect for weed-suppressing groundcover in borders, rockeries and containers. Foliage is fern-like and emerges in March, lasting through to November - adding silvery-green shimmers to the garden.Nomenclature indicates that the plant is named after Achilles - who reputedly used a salve from achillea to heal his soldier's wounds after the siege of Troy. Historically the plant has been used for many complaints from nose bleeds to thrombosis. Achillea millefolium 'Red Beauty' prefers a spot in well-drained soil which benefits from full sun. Plants are drought tolerant once they have established and will naturalise to bring more blooms each year. A fully hardy perennial which reaches a height and spread of 50-60cm.
