Jobs for November
Cold weather, rain and strong gales are a sure sign that November is here. Due to these conditions, you may feel reluctant to spend time in the garden and who would blame you? However, to sustain and maintain the health of existing plants and shrubs, you will need to brave the adversity of the British weather and undertake some important tasks before winter really sets in.
Checklist
Clear up fallen leaves to prevent them from rotting into the ground – especially from lawns ponds and flower beds.
Cut back discoloured foliage from herbaceous perennials whilst lifting and dividing overcrowded clumps to maintain health and strength.
Continue to leave water and feed for passing birds, as this can be a tricky time for them.
Much like October, you may take hardwood cuttings from many shrubs, especially deciduous varieties.
Raise patio containers onto feet or bricks to avoid them from sitting in winter moisture.
Regularly hoe flower beds and borders to keep them neat and tidy, whilst removing weeds and unwanted debris.
