August is often the peak of British summer with warm temperatures and the occasional outburst of intense rain and storms. If you are staying at home during the holiday season, enjoy the garden during one of its finest hours. There is less to do than previously, but your garden is thriving and flourishing to optimum effect and so there is always work to be done.
Checklist
Water containers and new plants thoroughly and deeply. Regularly water flower beds and borders especially during prolonged periods of drought.
Collect seeds from your favourite plants to sow for the following season. Alternatively, why not give some to a friend or family member.
Prune summer flowering shrubs once they have finished blooming.
Prune climbing roses once they finished flowering.
Stake top heavy or taller varieties of plants to prevent damage from any adverse weather conditions.
Deadhead flowering plants on a regular basis to encourage further flowering and profuse growth and health.
