Jobs for April
Spring is well under way with a mix of warm, sunny days and torrential April showers. It is another exciting month in the garden with blooms popping up in flower beds, borders and containers. Keep an eye out for late frosts.
Checklist
Plant herbaceous perennials and summer flowering bulbs of your choice if this has not been undertaken already.
Apply a feed to those that need it, ready for growth in late spring/early summer.
Divide clumps of herbaceous perennials that you wish to propagate if plants have outgrown their planting area.
Continue to stake and provide support to plants that may need it, for them to grow to a healthy shape and structure.
Deadhead faded daffodils, leaving the foliage in place so bulbs can absorb vital energy for the following season.
Continue to water container plants and those in beds and borders if rainfall is limited.
Remove old, dead and diseased branches from plants that look a little unkempt.
Feed trees, shrubs and hedging with a balanced fertiliser.
Start to mow lawns where necessary and keep tidy throughout active growth.
Pressure wash patios and decking to remove dirt and algae.
