Zinnia are best planted in a well-drained soil of sand, clay, chalk or loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in a sheltered area that receives full sun. Zinnia are well suited to planting in flower beds and borders within courtyard, coastal, cottage and informal garden settings.

Amend the planting area with a generous amount of compost to improve conditions of the native soil which will improve flower and foliage performance.
Implement a moderate watering schedule to maintain healthy moisture levels. Water from the base to ensure optimum growth and development. Deadhead after the flowering period to encourage more blooms for the following season. Protect from extreme cold weather, ensuring they are kept in a warm environment before the first frosts take hold.
It is possible to propagate Zinnia by seed sown in pots in spring.
