Yucca are evergreen shrubs and trees with sword-shaped foliage and large panicles of white flowers that bloom in summer. They are native to America and the Caribbean in hot and dry areas. They are well suited to grow in containers or borders and are great for adding architectural interest into the garden. You should expect to see your Yucca grow to an approximate height of 55cm-10m (22in-33ft) and an approximate spread of 1.5-8m (5-26ft), depending on the variety.
Yucca are best planted in a well-drained soil of loam or sand within an acidic, neutral or alkaline PH balance. They are best positioned in a sheltered position of full sun. Low light levels can result in less flowers being produces and may cause the plant to become spindly.
Cut off dying and dead leaves when required, usually in the spring. This will encourage the new leaves to grow. Yucca are drought tolerant so do not require much water once they are established.
It is possible to propagate Yucca by seed sown in the spring or by root cuttings in the winter.
