Amend the soil with compost before planting. Water thoroughly and deeply after planting.
In frost prone areas, shelter from cold, drying winds. Water regularly during the growing season so that the soil does not dry out. Protect in winter with a generous layer of dry mulch. Cut down old fronds once they are damaged or deteriorated.
It is possible to propagate Woodwardia by spores sown at 16°C in late summer/early autumn or by division in spring.
