Viola are well suited to flower beds and borders within courtyard, coastal, cottage and informal garden settings.

Amend the planting area with plenty of organic matter and mix in thoroughly to the existing soil.
Water regularly, allowing the soil to dry between applications. Remove or deadhead spent flowers to promote further blooming. To neaten overgrown and congested plants you may wish to cut back, so they are 8-10cm (3-4in) above soil level. In summer, mulch to keep the soil moist and cool.
It is possible to propagate Viola by seed sown in late winter or spring or by softwood cuttings in spring.
