Valeriana are best planted in a moist but well-drained soil of sand, clay, chalk or loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area of sun or part shade. Valeriana are well suited to a wildflower or cottage gardening style.

Water deeply and thoroughly after planting. Space companion plants around 90cm (35in) apart from one another.

No pruning required, just cut back to ground level in the autumn. Water regularly so the soil does not dry out.
