Thyme is best planted in a well-drained soil of sand, chalk, or loam within a neutral or alkaline pH balance. It is best positioned in full sun. thyme is suited to being planted in borders, beds and containers within a cottage or Mediterranean style garden.

Ensure the soil is well-drained by amending with grit or gravel to aid in water drainage. If planting in the ground, space companion plants around 30cm (12in) apart from one another. If growing in pots, aim for a pot size of around 15cm (6in) in diameter. Water after planting.
Cut back after flowering to promote new growth and avoid the plants from becoming woody. This will also give you more leaves in Autumn to use. Once established, Thyme are drought tolerant plants.
It is possible to propagate Thyme by seed, division, or basal cuttings in spring.
