Tetrapanax are evergreen shrubs or small growing trees with beautiful palmate foliage and modest clusters of flowers that flourish throughout autumn. Flowers are often followed by black fruits in the winter. Tetrapanax are best suited to flower beds and borders within a city, courtyard or architectural garden. You can expect to see Tetrapanax grow to an approximate height of 2.5-4m (8-13’) and a spread of 1.5-2.5m (5-13’).
Tetrapanax are best planted in well-drained soil of chalk, loam or sand within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. Tetrapanax thrive in a position of full sun or part shade. Make sure your plants are in a site that is sheltered from cold, drying winds, located in an appropriate position that will cater for their eventual mature size.
Once established, Tetrapanax are easy to care for. Apply a generous layer of mulch during the spring and autumn to retain moisture in the soil and to deter weeds. Keep the soil moist, especially during periods of drought. If Tetrapanax become too invasive you may wish to propagate in order to retain control.
