Sophora are deciduous or evergreen trees and shrubs with slender foliage and trumpet-shaped blooms that are often produced in attractive clusters, releasing a sweet scent. Sophora are best suited to flower beds or borders within city, courtyard and cottage gardens. You can expect to see Sophora grow to an approximate height of 4-8m (13-26’).
Sophora are best planted in well-drained soil of chalk, loam or sand within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. Sophora thrive in a position of full sun. Ensure you plant Sophora in a suitable location to accommodate its eventual height and spread. Amend the planting area with plenty of compost to improve drainage and ensure plants are placed to a suitable depth and width, watering thoroughly to settle into place. Keep in a sheltered spot, protected from adverse weather conditions.
Sophora are easy to care for and low maintenance plants. Water once weekly ensuring the soil it kept relatively moist but not waterlogged. As Sophora is slow growing there should be no need for pruning until it is necessary for re-shaped purposes.
