Scadoxus are best planted in a well-drained, loam-based soil within an alkaline, neutral or acidic PH balance. They are best positioned in an area of full sun or partial shade. They are perfect for planting in pots and containers so that they can be kept frost-free over winter. Can be grown under glass in full light but with shade from hot sun.

Plant in a loam-based compost with added leaf mould and grit.
Scadoxus are sub-tropical plants so will need to be kept warm and frost-free during winter. Water regularly during the growing season and keep just moist when the plant is dormant. Apply a diluted balanced fertiliser each month. Scadoxus should not be potted on too often, as they prefer to have their roots restricted and will flower better if they are.
It is possible to propagate Scadoxus by seed sown as soon as ripe and germinate at 19-24°C. Remove offsets in early spring.
